FME Onyx Uses GPS to Track Work Status of Mechanical Sweepers

FME Onyx, one of Asia’s largest waste management operators, has equipped its mechanical sweepers with InfoWave’s Waveon 728 mobile data terminal (MDT).

Using GPS facilitated by Waveon 728’s receiver module, FME Onyx tracks the real-time status of cleaning work done on the roads and expressways along the streets in central Singapore - Orchard Road, Little India, Raffles Place, Chinatown, and Holland Village. The cleaning work involves pavement and road sweeping, cleaning and de-silting of drains, litter picking, as well as emptying and washing litter bins.

To ensure greater safety for its workers and the public, FME Onyx has completely mechanized the cleaning work, so that there would be no manual litter picking on the roads and expressways.

Waveon 728’s built-in GSM/GPRS module enables the waste management control centre not only to communicate with the drivers who are on-board the mechanical sweepers, but also to dispatch job orders and receive completed job notices from the drivers.

A total of 22 mechanical sweepers were installed with InfoWave’s Waveon 728 in 2002. InfoWave’s MDT has continued to help FME Onyx in delivering the best-in-class service and ensuring the streets’ cleanliness in central Singapore at all times.
